Handicapping

The purpose of the NZG Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

A NZG Handicap Index is only issued to members of a golf club and reflects the players potential being based on the best 10 of the last 20 cards. Members NZG Handicap is calculated on the playing cards returned and revised fortnightly.

Players are required to return a score for handicapping purposes every time they play a round of golf, either at their home course or away. Scores must be returned for both stroke play and match play rounds, and should be left at the course where the round is played for entering into the NZG system.

Should an error occur in the entering of any score, members are requested to give full details to the Club’s Administrator.
Scores to post:

if 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18 hole score
if 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a 9 hole score
in either case, unplayed holes shall be recorded as par plus handicap strokes

Allocation of NZ Handicap Index

The maximum handicap index is 54.0.
To obtain a ‘handicap index’, a player must submit at least 5 cards.
