Latest News

Special General Meeting
Thank you to those members who attended the Special General Meeting last Wednesday. The new Constitution was adopted which now allows the Golf Club to re-register under the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and retain our status as a “not for profit amateur sports club” prior to the deadline.
Telephone Issues
As a result of issues with our internal phone system, we have gone “mobile” – 021-0866-9525 – with a diversion in place for anyone using our old number.
Inter-Club Competitions
Rangiora is hosting Kaikoura Cup this Sunday (22nd) and Super Seniors on Monday (23rd) – please tee booking sheet for free tee times.
Course Renovations
The course and practice area will be CLOSED from Monday 2 March until Friday 6 March. If you wish to play Amberley, we now have an arrangement for half price green fees during this week.

Golf Club Development

Please find below a tentative timeline of the various projects relating to the development.

  • Car Park – once design and drainage requirements are finalised, work is likely to commence in 10 weeks (approx. mid April)
  • Hole 17 – the covering and mounding of this area with top soil will commence over the next week.
  • Earthworks along car park (preparation for the retaining wall) – clearing of the area at the back of the Greens Shed area, especially the diesel tank – will commence in the first half of March.
  • Hole 18 boundary – while this is a long term task, the bulk of the earthworks will commence in a couple of months (end April).
  • Hole 1 (roadside trimming) – Main Power will undertake this work either Monday or Tuesday (16/17 February) with debris being chipped.
  • Practice Area (trees along the roadside) – MainPower have agreed to “hard prune to ground level”  the 9 trees at no cost, next week.  Paul Woods will be organising a team to assist with the clear-up.  Anyone able to assist on Tuesday 16 February, please see Paul.
Bar Prices

Prices will increase as from 1 March 2026, due to brewery increases on all products with the main impact being on tap and bottled beers.

Thank You

To our 9 Hole group for the great job in painting all of the “out of bounds” posts along the road sides of the course.

To Harry, George, Steve & John who have taken on additional mowing duties while one green’s staff member is on sick leave.

7 & 8 February

Due to Rangiora hosting the Club’s NZ South Island Teams Event, the course will be closed until 3.00pm.

Saturday, 7th – Amberley Golf Club have invited any members wishing to join them for their Opening Day (Teams Stableford) – cost is $25 (includes green fees & match of the day) tee off at 12 noon, reporting no later than 11.30am.

If you wish to join in their Opening Day, please enter via the entry sheet in the main foyer by 4 February 2026.

18th Hole

As from 2 March the “Temporary Fencing” along the southern boundary of the 18th hole will become “Out of Bounds“.
If you think you may have gone “out of bounds”, please play a provisional ball.

The “out of bounds” pegs between the corner and the clubhouse has also been re-aligned away from the carpark.

Should you ball finish against the temporary fencing and your stance or swing is impeded, please take relief under rule 16.1b Temporary Immovable Obstruction – one club length free drop at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole.

The “Out of Bounds” posts from the corner to the clubhouse has also been realigned.

Club Policy – Practicing on the Course
  1. Practice rounds – members are asked to limit the number of balls to 2.
  2. Woods & Long Irons – two areas are designated on course for this purpose (no 5 & no 16) & avoiding the use of the “tee blocks”.
  3. Pitching into greens with numerous balls – is not permitted.

Of concern is that particularly on Friday afternoons, following the preparation of new holes for the Saturday competition, that a person or persons is regularly ignoring the Club’s Policy – no 3 above.
Not only is this action frustrating for our staff but also to fellow members.  Anyone observed continuing to disregard this policy may have their playing rights suspended.

2026 RANGIORA GC MEN’S SHOOTOUT

Qualifying for another Rangiora men’s shootout is almost underway with the poster up on the clubhouse noticeboard, after last year’s event went to a chip-off shootout for the first time. The atmosphere was tense last November 23 with an audience of 30-40 enjoying their beers in the hot sunshine as the 2 finalists had their blind chip-off from in front of the clubhouse on No. 18. PETER JONES emerged as the winner with his chip finishing just 2.7m from the flagstick, while runner-up Mark Batchelor’s shot was 4.4m away. The hole had gone to a shootout after Batch parred the par-five hole & Peter (who had a handicap shot) bogeyed.

Shootout co-ordinator Peter Rainey said there would be 10 qualifying rounds this year beginning on Saturday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day) with an entry fee of $25 (one keen golfer’s paid already) & a minimum 4 qualifying scores for the 19-man finals day shootout on Sunday, November 8. Based on net scores one player is eliminated each hole with Rainey sending them to a blind putt-off, chip-off or even sand shots when a shootout is required. It’s a lot of fun; pleasure mixed with pressure. Last year there was a 4-way putt-off on the 8th hole (which the winner survived) & a five-way chip-off on the 9th.

Unfortunately, the original finals day last year had to be cancelled because of Rainey’s illness & several of the qualifiers could not make the new date a fortnight later, having just made arrangements for the first day. Twenty-three players had paid up, but only 11 of the ideal full field of 19 teed off & the shootout had to begin on the 8th hole. One of the most consistent shootout performers, Mark Graham, went out on the par-3 17th after his tee shot finished up against the face of the left-side bunker. Graham has been 5th, 4th & 3rd the last 3 years.

Results: Peter Jones winner $300, Mark Batchelor runner-up $120, Mark Graham 3rd $70, Jim Dwyer 4th $70.
