Men’s Shootout Update

2024 Rangiora Men’s Shootout

With only 2 of the 9 qualifying rounds left to establish the final 19, the 5th Rangiora men’s shootout is looking to be the most popular yet with 26 golfers entered, and 22 already played the minimum 4 rounds. Another 3 just need to play one more game. The penultimate round will be played this coming Saturday, October 5, before the course is closed for coring and the last one 4 weeks later on Saturday, November 2.

One of the club’s longer hitters, Scott Daniels, is currently leading the qualifying with an excellent best 4 scores of net 276, 12 shots under his handicap, including 2 net 68s. Newcomer Tony Knudsen is another 10 shots further back on net 286, while the fast-swinging Rocky Marchioni is lying 3rd in the standings with net 288. Chris Kerr, the 2022 champion Rob Sutton, and our club captain Steve Jones are all on 291, with last year’s runner-up Steve Williams one shot back on net 292. Also well placed is Kazuma’s caddie-to-be, Matt Burns (net 296, from just 4 rounds played), with the lowest handicap index of 1.2.

The final shootout is scheduled for Sunday, November 10. All 4 previous winners, Paul Woods (2019), Bruce Hutchison (2020), Rob Sutton (2022) & Keith Anderson (2023) have entered again. The year-long series co-ordinated by Peter Rainey is in its 6th year, with the 2021 event unable to be finished because of the coronavirus.
