Men’ Match – Saturday Competition Fees

Over the past year or so the members of the Men’s Match Committee have received a number of complaints about the diminishing size of the contents of our meat pack prizes and the embarrassment it causes the club when compared to the packs other club’s hand out in the various competitions we are able to enter through Vet’s etc.

There are a couple of simple reasons for this:

  • Our competition entry fee of $5 as been the same for a number of years but the price of meat has increased considerably over this period and we must thank New World, Rangiora, for what they have been able to achieve with the packs as the price of meat grew.
  • If you go to any other club within our area or throughout the South Island you will find that most charge $10 competition entry fee and in some cases $20, which explains the more substantial packs.
  • Also to be taken into consideration is that in our fee we allow for 2’s, 2 x 2’s, net eagles and closest to the pin.

This can be rectified by an increase in our fee to bring us into line with other clubs and the Men’s Match Committee have voted to increase our Competition Entry Fee for normal Saturday competitions to $10.  This will not affect the 2’s, 2 x 2’s, net eagles and closest to the pin which will remain at the same prize level. It won’t necessarily increase the number of prizes given out but will enable us to provide larger meat packs and with this we intend to increase the prizes to:

  • 1 x $20 meat pack plus 2 x $10 vouchers to the winners of Divisions 1 and 2.
  • 1 x $20 meat pack plus 1 x $10 voucher to the runners up in Division 1 and 2.
  • $20 meat packs to each of the other placed members in both Divisions, depending on each day’s entries.
  • Prize winners will still be able to take vouchers in lieu of meat packs and vouchers will also be given if you are not there to collect a meat pack at the end of the day’s play,

The vouchers can be used at the Bar, in the Golf Shop, at the Starting Office, or put into your account in the Golf Shop to be used for the later purchase of balls or other equipment or to go towards your annual subscription.

Whilst we appreciate some members may not be in full agreeance with this, unfortunately, we need to do it to get the prizes to a better level. Should you not wish to enter the competition you can still play in the field without entering the competition.

We would therefore advise that effective Saturday 8th, February 2024 the Saturday Competition Fee will increase to $10.
